Avast: Enterprises at Increased Risk from AutoRun Attacks

V3.co.uk reports that Antivirus vendor Avast Software says enterprises are at a growing risk from infected USB devices targeting the AutoRun feature in Windows.

The company reports that one in eight of the 700,000 attacks recorded by the company came from USB devices. Says Avast Virus Lab analyst Jan Sirmer:

Cyber criminals are taking advantage of people’s natural inclination to share with their friends, and the growing memory capacity of USB devices. Put these two factors together and we have an interesting scenario.

The Stuxnet worm, which targets Seimens indutrial control systems, was spread via a USB device.
