Shaileshkumar “Sam” Jain, the CEO of a Ukrainian company called Innovative Marketing who is accused of making more than $100 million selling “scareware” anti-virus products, was already a fugitive from U.S. authorities.
According to Computerworld, Jain gave authorities the slip following an arrest by federal agents in 2008 on charges that his company sold counterfeit versions of Symantec anti-virus products. Jain then moved on to selling a shocking 1 million copies of fake anti-virus products such as WinFixer, Antivirus 2008 and VirusRemover 2008.
Two other men face charges as well: Innovative Marketing Chief Technology Officer Bjorn Daniel Sundin and the man whose call center provided technical support for the products, James Reno of Amelia, Ohio.
None of the men are in custody.
