During an assessment of the school’s network, Eastern Washington University discovered a data breach that may have put more than 130,000 current and former students at risk. According to eSecurity Planet, a hacker may have accessed personal information, including Social Security numbers and birth dates.
So far, there is no evidence that the information has been misused. Still, the university has set up an informational Web site for current and former students who may have been affected.
Eastern Washington University is just the latest school to be hit by a security breach. In December, a hacker gained access to a computer server for 25 North Carolina community colleges that contained the personal information of nearly 51,000 people.
