According to Commtouch’s quarterly Internet Threats Trend Report, “Gmail.com” is the most abused domain name, reports Computerworld.
Commtouch says that only 1 percent of spam e-mails sent from Gmail addresses are from actual Gmail accounts. The report notes that between 5 percent to 10 percent of all spam seems to come from Gmail accounts. Other findings from the study include:
- During the first three months of 2010, 83 percent of all e-mail traffic was spam.
- Pharmacy spam made up 81 percent of all spam messages.
- Brazil leads the pack in producing the most zombie computers, 14 percent of the global total.
