According to eSecurity Planet, Coca-Cola is the latest subject of a phishing gimmick designed to steal personal information.
Security software vendor AppRiver explains that the scam is disguised as a public opinion poll that promises a $150 cash reward for completing the survey. It asks for the respondents’ credit card information in order to facilitate the deposit.
After clicking on the link, users are redirected through a series of websites before ending up on a malicious site hosting the survey. Clicking the “submit” button sends the information to phishers and users are then sent to the official Coca-Cola website.
As always, users are warned to never open links or attachments contained in unsolicited e-mails.
