Martin Roesch started the open-source Snort network intrusion prevention system project in 1998, eventually evolving it into the base of SourceFire, which he sold to Cisco for $2.7 billion in 2013. Now Roesch is the Chief Architect for the Cisco Security Business Group, and Snort is still very much on its mind.
Snort++, the next generation of the Snort project, is currently in active development and will also one day become the base for Cisco Firepower IPS and next generation firewall technology as well.
In a video interview, Roesch discusses how the next generation of Snort is evolving and why open-source remains a core part of Cisco’s security efforts in 2016.
