According to the latest MessageLabs Intelligence report from Symantec Hosted Services, spam, phishing and e-mail-borne virus attacks have all jumped.
V3.co.uk reports that spam rose 0.3 percent to reach 90 percent in May. Global phishing activity increased 0.2 percent, reaching one in every 237.1 e-mails. One of the largest jumps in the past month was the growth in new websites hosting malware, increasing 5.6 percent.
Supporting Symantec’s findings, Trend Micro recently warned of two related phishing scams that are designed to capitalize on this summer’s World Cup tournament in South Africa. The scams promise money in the hopes of snagging personal information.
