Microsoft has scrapped the security portion of “Patch Tuesday” this month, citing concerns with the quality of a fix to a critical but unnamed bug.
In an announcement late Friday, the company said it “encountered a quality issue that necessitated the update to go through additional testing and development before it is released.”
In a previous posted on its site Thursday, the company said that the single security update it planned to release this week addressed a “critical” security flaw, but went into no further detail than that.
According to both announcements, the company will still release an updated version of its Malicious Software Removal Tool on Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services and the Download Center, though the company noted the update will not be made available via Software Update Services (SUS).
In addition to the tool update and the security patch, the company plans to release an unspecified number of unidentified non-security, high priority updates over all its software update conduits.
