Network-1 Security Solutions has initiated patent litigation against 16 data networking equipment manufacturers in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division, for infringement of United States Patent No. 6,218,930 (the “Remote Power Patent”).
As noted in this Marketwire release, the Remote Power Patent, entitled “Apparatus and Method for Remotely Powering Access Equipment Over a 10/100 Switched Ethernet Network,” relates to, among other things, a key technology used in equipment that complies with the IEEE 802.3af Power Over Ethernet (PoE) standard (the “PoE Standard”) that was approved in June 2003 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (the “IEEE”). PoE delivers power over Ethernet cables to remotely power network connected devices including wireless switches, wireless access points, RFID card readers, VOIP telephones, and network cameras.
