“Cisco is reportedly eyeing a purchase of Skype before the leading PC-based VoIP (voice over IP) company goes public. A Skype acquisition could either give Cisco a strategic advantage against its competitors, or perhaps make Cisco a more attractive target for larger potential suitors,” writes PC World’s Tony Bradley.
“A post from TechCrunch reports that reliable sources claim Cisco has made an offer to buy Skype before its IPO. The post adds ‘We have not been able to confirm this rumor one way or another via other sources, which isn’t surprising. A company in lock down during the IPO process is usually even more tight lipped than normal,’ ” Bradley writes.
