The emergence of IP as a way to knit together different telecommunications services and to treat them in a consistent and unified manner has far-reaching impact. Indeed, this impact isn’t always obvious from the start. Emergency communications, for instance, probably isn’t the first thing that pops into many minds when the advantages of SIP and unified communications are considered.
But the reality is that UC – and the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) upon which it is based – facilitate a deeper and more intensive means of reaching folks when they have to be reached.
