Addition of data capabilities, such as sharing PowerPoint completes the picture. Tandberg, which is spending its last days as an independent company, has upgraded is Movi collaboration platform to handle presentation content, according to Mike Roussey, the vendor’s Senior Manager of Global Product Marketing.
Roussey said that the second version of the Movi platform, which was released in February of 2008, offers video and audio conferencing capabilities. The addition in the third version of data capabilities, such as the ability to share PowerPoint presentations with remote and mobile devices, completes the picture, Roussey said.
“I feel the value of this is rounding out the mobile solution,” Roussey told Unified Communications Edge. “Everything you can do with a client-based endpoint, you can do with Movi.” Roussey said the new version of Movi also offers a simplified user interface.
Tandberg – which is the final stages of being acquired by Cisco – introduced the line in 2007.
The Movi platform relies on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and the H.323 and H.320 audio, visual and data standards. Since it is standards-based, any end point – even those from other vendors – that also are standards-based theoretically can participate in conferencing sessions if they are properly registered.
Roussey said the Movi primarily is aimed at the enterprise sector. Pricing is on a per-license basis. The per-license price drops from $125 to $30 as purchases grow from 25 to 2,000, he said.
