AT&T to Build Ohio Data Center

AT&T has announced it plans to make an initial investment of $120 million to build a data center in Akron, Ohio that will process information sent via mobile phones. The Akron-based data center will serve Ohio and the East coast, including New York City, where AT&T recently completed a 3G upgrade.

The facility will expand AT&T’s existing 3G network capacity as well as support forthcoming 4G/LTE services for the telecommunications giant, WHIR reports. The $120 million investment will go toward the facility’s first phase, which is expected to go online sometime in September.
