Top Juniper Exec Jumps to Cisco

On March 7, Juniper Networks issued a press release detailing organizational changes. As part of those changes, Jonathan Davidson, executive vice president and general manager of Juniper Development and Innovation, resigned from Juniper. At the time, it wasn’t clear where Davidson was headed, but now it is – he’s off to Juniper’s main rival Cisco Systems.

Davidson is joining Cisco’s Service Provider Business Unit and the Cisco senior leadership team as SVP/GM of Service Provider Networking, reporting to Yvette Kanouff, the senior vice president and general manager of Cisco’s service provider business unit. Davidson had been at Juniper since February 2010.

For Davidson, the move to Cisco will actually be the second time he has worked for the company. Davidson worked for Cisco from 2000 until March 2010 holding positions as director of Server Provider Solution Engineering and Director of Project Management, prior to joining Juniper.

“We couldn’t be more excited that Jonathan joins our journey as we usher in the next generation of networking and network automation innovation,” Kanouff wrote in a blog post. “He brings extensive experience in strategy and network engineering leadership as well as strong customer relationships that will serve us well.”

At Juniper, Davidson’s former role is now being realigned into different positions. Kevin Hutchins will now serve as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Product Line Management, Additionally, Juniper’s engineering organization will now report into chief development officer, Andy Athreya. Both Athreay and he and Hutchins will now both report directly to Juniper’s CEO Rami Rahim.
