Opsware Tackles Network Automation

Opsware has announced the availability of its Network Automation System 4.0, which the company says can speed up compliance efforts by as much as five times.

Opsware Tackles Network Automation

Opsware Monday unveiled the Opsware Network Automation System (NAS) 4.0, network automation software based on Rendition Networks' TrueControl product, which Opsware acquired in February 2005.

Opsware says that in addition to the traditional features of automated network configuration management (NCCM) tools, which enable network administrators to make mass changes across numerous network devices, NAS helps determine if the change was made correctly, and provides a way to set policies and enforce best practices.

NAS 4.0 provides change automation, compliance management, process automation, security administration, and reporting centered around all these operational activities for all network devices, such as load balancers, routers, and switches. The enhancements in the new release center around workflow automation, compliance management tools (through the Compliance Center), an access control list manager to automate and standardize network security management, and a redesigned Web-based user interface.

The product features out-of-the-box and custom reports for all types of change activity. The Compliance Center offers automated auditing and reporting for Sarbanes-Oxley, ITIL, HIPAA, and COBIT. Opsware claims customers using the product meet compliance requirements, such as SOX, five times faster with NAS than with manual efforts.

NAS 4.0 deployments span all major vertical markets, including financial services, insurance, government, defense, telecommunications, service providers, healthcare, technology, and retail.

When combined with Opsware's Server Automation System, NAS 4.0 delivers a unified view of the application environment, including the underlying servers, applications, software infrastructure, network devices and all their interdependencies. The Opsware Automation Suite can automate the management of more than 350 network devices from over 15 vendors, more than 30 server platforms, and all software infrastructure and applications.

NAS 4.0 is available for immediate purchase and is scheduled to begin shipping March 21.
