Avaya Expands Collaboration in Aura Conferencing 7

Full collaboration solution comes to both mobile and desktop users.

Avaya is expanding its collaboration offerings this week with the release of Aura Conference 7.0. Avaya Aura Conferencing enables web and voice collaboration from multiple types of devices, including desktops, notebooks, tablets and smartphones.

Aura is complemented by Avaya's Flare Experience App, which is now available on the iPad tablet as well as Microsoft Windows PCs. Flare provides a Unified Communications interface featuring voice, instant messaging, presence, email and document sharing. The new release can also help to reduce some of the distractions that are often present in conferencing solutions.

"Both users and moderators can enjoy unique visual and contextual controls that help eliminate most or all of the typical disruptions of traditional conference sessions, such as announcing or identifying attendees, muting background noise, identifying who’s speaking by name, etc," Craig Lynar, director of UC product marketing at Avaya, told EnterpriseNetworkingPlanet. "They can IM individuals or groups and take minutes or notes during the meeting that can be consolidated and saved by the moderator."

From a scalability perspective, Lynar noted that Aura Conferencing 7 can handle up to 7,500 concurrent conferencing sessions; supporting tens of thousands of workers located virtually anywhere.

When it comes to the iPad, Avaya has been demoing its Aura/Flare combination on the Apple tablet for some time. Lynar said that now full collaboration experience is available on both iPads and on Windows-based PCs/laptops with the availability of Conferencing 7.0.

Migration

There are a number of ways by which existing Avaya customers will be able to upgrade to the new platform. Lynar said that if they have Avaya Support Advantage Upgrade, they will automatically upgrade to the latest version of Avaya Aura 6.2. For customers that are on Meeting Exchange audio/web conferencing, there is a data migration utility that can be used to move system and user data from a Meeting Exchange system to Avaya Aura Conferencing 7.0.

From a deployment perspective, Aura Conferencing 7.0 is not available as some kind of public Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) or cloud offering.

"Currently it is all on prem but can be deployed as a private cloud within enterprises using a centralized, hub and spoke configuration," Lynar said.
