Polycom is starting off the new year with an acquisition. On Jan. 4, Polycom announced that it has acquired San Jose-based Obihai Technology. Financial terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed.
Obihai Technology was founded in 2010 and had raised approximately $1.5 million in venture funding. The company’s product portfolio includes VoIP phones and adapter technologies.
“The strategic acquisition of the Obihai team and its software platform allows Polycom to surge forward on our strategy to deliver the best and most human-to-human experience in our audio and video solutions,” Mary McDowell, Polycom CEO, stated. “Looking ahead to 2018 and beyond, the addition of Obihai will immediately open new markets and revenue opportunities for Polycom.”
Among Obihai’s products are the Obi200, 202 and 212 voice adapters that enabled users to connect to VoIP services from Google Voice. The OBI 212 is the largest of the adapters and support dual POTS and VoIP services.
Polycom’s plan for Obihai is to add additional cloud-based capabilities and Analog Terminal Adapter solutions to its solutions portfolio.
