Juniper Networks is acquiring privately-held WANDL, Inc. for $60 million.

WANDL (Wide Area Network Design Laboratory) has a portfolio of network design and traffic engineering software solutions. Among WANDL’s offerings, its IP/MPLSView solution includes design and planning, management and monitoring, and service creation and WANDLprovisioning components.

WANDL’s other solutions include the Network Planning and Analysis Tools (NPAT) suite, a planning solution of optical and frame relay networks. Juniper will also benefit from WANDL’s Multilayer IP-over-transport Network Design (MIND) solution.

“We believe the combination of WANDL’s industry-leading network software solutions and Juniper’s deep expertise in enabling high-performance networks will further benefit our global customers seeking to build next-generation architectures with greater operational efficiency and lower total cost of ownership,” Dave Wang, president of WANDL, Inc., said in a statement. “WANDL’s employees have developed extensive skills in deploying advanced network management and design solutions for large multivendor networks.”

Juniper and WANDL were well known to each other, as WANDL was part of Juniper’s Technology Alliance partner program.

“As our service provider customers continue to focus on finding ways to address the proliferation of mobile, video, cloud computing and other data-intensive services, they will benefit from WANDL’s capabilities to design and manage networks more easily and cost efficiently, at any scale,” Daniel Hua, senior vice president and general manager, Routing Business Unit, Juniper Networks, said in a statement.

The WANDL staff will continue to operate out of their own New Jersey location and will now become part of Juniper’s OpenLab center of Innovation.
