Juniper Networks announced today that it is acquiring privately-held technology vendor BTI Systems. Financial terms of the deal are not being publicly disclosed.
BTI Systems’ products span multiple segments of the networking landscape, including the cloud, packet optical, and Software Defined Networking (SDN). At the top end of the BTI Systems portfolio is the BTI 7800 series intelligent cloud connect platforms.
“Leveraging a rich set of optical capabilities, our solution delivers industry-leading 10G/40G/100G scale, density and performance with fully optimized network utilization and flexible client- and line-side options, including 100G Coherent with 2 Degree and 9 Degree ROADMs,” BTI Systems’ 7800 product page states.
A Juniper Networks spokesperson told Enterprise Networking Planet that the acquisition of BTI Systems reflects a growth opportunity for Juniper. The spokesperson added that Juniper can’t share more details on the company’s product roadmap plans at this time.
“BTI Systems will be an essential building block in providing high capacity optical connectivity for metro and long haul networks,” the spokesperson stated. “Together, Juniper and BTI will provide flexibility and choice of integrated or external transponder/mux ponder along with network management tool kit to enable seamless operations.”
More specifically, Juniper sees real opportunity for BTI Systems to help enhance Juniper’s expertise in optical technologies, inlcuding the MX, QFX, PTX and ACX platforms. Additionally, Juniper’s cloud automation tools can be enhanced with BTI’s Cloud connect portfolio.
“As part of this acquisition, Juniper will pave the way in creating open, packet+optical solutions to help drive the industry toward a more open, cost efficient and programmable IP and optical transport network,” the spokesperson said. “We believe the acquisition will also make way for true multilayer optimization and a single touch point for end-to-end services that afford greater simplicity and visibility while enabling end-to-end programmatic workflow automation.”
Juniper’s acquisition of BTI Systems comes ahead of the company’s fourth quarter and full year fiscal 2015 results, which are set to be release after market close on January 27.
